We were referred to the MFAMA practice in November 2004 following the stillbirth of our first daughter Lauren, at 25 weeks of gestation.  The cause of death was never determined.  My husband and I were devastated by the loss of our daughter and were unsure whether our dream of having children would ever be realized.  We subsequently scheduled a consultation to evaluate our medical history, obtain genetic counseling, and to discuss a course of action for future pregnancies with MFAMA.  During that first visit Dr. Elkousy helped put our fears at ease and said we should continue to try to become pregnant.  Within a few short months we became pregnant…this time with twin girls.  The doctors began to monitor us very closely, often with sonograms as frequent as once a week.  We quickly established a close rapport with Doctors Hassan, Maghak and Elkousy and the other medical staff in the practice.

It was discovered early on that our twin daughters suffered from a condition called “Twin to Twin Transfusion syndrome” and that medical intervention would be necessary.  Dr. Hassan quickly referred me to a surgeon at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia in order to undergo a medical procedure to combat the effects of the syndrome.  In addition, Doctors Hassan and Maghak administered multiple amniocenteses to normalize the amniotic fluid between our twins in hopes of maintaining the pregnancy.  Despite all the successful medical intervention, in October 2005 I underwent the premature rupture of my membranes at 22 weeks gestation and nothing else could be done.  We lost our 2nd and 3rd daughters, Jessica and Brooke.  Again my husband and I were in despair and began to question our ability to have children.

During a post-partum examination, Dr. Hassan observed that my cervix was weak and advised that a cerclage be placed with the next pregnancy.  Within 3 months I became pregnant again and as Dr. Hassan had predicted my cervix was weak (incompetent cervix).  A cerclage was quickly placed.  Throughout the remainder of my pregnancy I continued to receive frequent monitoring and sonograms to ensure the pregnancy was advancing successfully and that my cervix was remaining closed.  In October 2006, my husband and I gave birth to our 4th baby girl, Ryan.  She was absolutely beautiful, and for the first time….completely healthy!!!  We are blessed!!!

My husband and I are eternally grateful to Doctors Hassan, Maghak and Elkousy!  They offered us genuine concern for our wellbeing and that of our unborn children.  We found great comfort in their knowledge and abilities.  They always monitored our pregnancies very closely with great attention to detail, administered competent and proactive medical treatment, offered kindness and encouraged us to “keep trying.”  Most importantly, they offered us hope and helped us fulfill our goal of having a family.
