3D Transvaginal Ultrasound
Some vaginal probes generate 3D and 4D images of the cervix, uterus, tubes and ovaries. An experienced sonographer and physician can use this technology to determine if the uterus has an acquired (such as fibroids, polyps, or scar tissue) or a congenital (uterine problem that a person is born with) abnormality of the uterus.
This is an especially important test for women who have recurrent pregnancy losses (multiple miscarriages). In many cases, an experienced doctor can obtain images that are equal to or better than an MRI, hysterosalpingogram (HSG) or Sonohysterogram. A 3D/4D vaginal ultrasound is not as invasive as the other procedures and can provide more detailed information. The best time to perform the ultrasound is just prior to the onset of the next menstrual cycle.
3D-TVUS is good at evaluating:
- Fibroids
- Polyps
- Scar tissue
- Uterine Septum
- Cervical abnormalities
- Congenital uterine abnormalities such as bicornuate uterus, unicornuate uterus, uterus didelphys, arcuate uterus as well as other uterine anomalies.
During pregnancy, 3D/4D TVUS can help in evaluating:
- Vasa Previa
- Cesarean scar ectopic or cervical ectopic pregnancy
- Placenta previa and possible accreta/increta or percreta
